Grosse Ile Yacht Club Downriver Race

The members of Grosse Ile Yacht Club (GIYC) have been long-time supporters of Essex County PHRF through LaSalle Mariner’s Yacht Club (LMYC) by means of their consistent participation in both the Shakedown Regatta and the Fighting Island Regatta.  Recently, several members of GIYC have formalized their support by joining our organization and, as such, we ask that our members consider competing in their Downriver Regatta on July 30th, 2016.

The Downriver Race has long been a staple of racing in our area and is truly one of the most unique regattas the Great Lakes region has to offer.  Serving as a preliminary feeder race for ILYA Bay Week, this regatta draws participants from the DRYA, PHRF-LE, and ECPHRF alike.  Through the cooperation of the historic Detroit Yacht Club (DYC), pre-race festivities include swimming, dining and dancing; following the race, GIYC offers food, camaraderie and live music on their newly developed patio that affords an absolutely spectacular view of Lake Erie.

For each of the reasons mentioned above, Essex County PHRF is considering adding the GIYC Downriver Race as a counter regatta for ECPHRF Boat of the Year 2017.  Not only will your participation in 2016 help us to evaluate the potential that it holds for our organization, the quality of this race on its own easily warrants your participation!
